December 14th, 2013 marks the one-year anniversary of the horrific massacre in Newtown, CT. Let us honor the victims of this unspeakable tragedy by introducing via Presidential Proclamation a National Day of Forgiveness and Reconciliation.
We seek to redefine this difficult day as one that would invite remembrance, personal reflection, and an opportunity for healing, not only on the individual level, but for the community and nation as a whole.
Free from any political agenda or partisan discourse, this designation would elevate, rather than escalate the dialogue concerning the many complicated issues this day has brought to the fore in our country. What better tribute for these innocent victims than a powerful statement endorsing the intrinsic value of forgiveness and reconciliation?
