The current situation is deeply destructive to both Israelis and Palestinians, and to the region. The only way to change things is to introduce a new dynamic.
With creation of a Palestinian state, Israelis and Palestinians will represent independent nation states. And even though one has much greater military might, law and norms of behavior between nation states will require them to act differently.
The UN in 1947 facilitated the establishment of Israel on the premise that Jews had a right to their own country. What was true for them is equally true for Palestinians.
Changing the dynamics between opposing parties is a time-tested technique for breaking an impasse. A positive development in itself, a Palestinian state (approved by the UN in 1947) is Israel’s best chance for lasting peace
