The cost of transportation has risen considerable over the last decade - gasoline, car payments, and insurance. We are forced to pay the costs and we depend on our automobiles due to the lack of public transportation in my area. Outside of large cities, public transportation in the United States is underdeveloped or non-existent compared to other countries - my city lacks any public transportation at all.
Most transportation grants go to projects making the problem worse instead of helping, such as adding another lane to the interstate that results in more traffic. Despite promises for smart growth and better transit, every day I see our beautiful countryside defaced with endless seas of parking lots and strip malls.
What is the plan for the future of transportation in our country?
