Invest in building a high speed passenger rail system.

Created by C.F. on September 27, 2011

To help promote a better environment, less dependence on oil, and moving people efficiently between city centers for both business and pleasure, a national, high speed rail system should be built. While the interstate system has served us well as a nation, it is time to move to a more efficient method of moving people between city centers. As our population grows, the burden on our highway system, airports, and other infrastructure can't keep up and rail systems are a far more efficient means of transportation and requires a fraction of the infrastructure and a fraction of the land that highways and airports consume. The system can be paid for by a carbon tax on coal, a luxury tax on large vehicles that are not used for commerical use, and an increase in the federal gasoline tax.
