As fuel prices continue to rise the cost of traveling across the United States is skyrocketing. The rise in the price of jet fuel, in conjunction with the cost of new safety measures, has resulted in making domestic air travel uneconomical, while the rising price of gasoline and diesel fuels is making cross-country travel by car unaffordable.
Research has shown that railways are extremely efficient in moving millions of pounds of cargo on very little fuel. As can be seen in much of the developed world, high-speed rail can move large numbers of travelers large distances quickly, safely and efficiently.
In addition to reducing our consumption of fossil fuels, investment in expansion of our railway infrastructure will create jobs and boost the national economy.
