We are asking the Obama administration to invest in America's future by funding a redistribution system for recyclables comparable to the current system for distributing manufactured goods.
Valuable resources are wasted because consumers, non profits and businesses have limited options for disposing of recyclables. Grades of plastics have been labeled since the 1990's, yet only a few are currently recycled and recycling efforts are uneven across the country.
Producing goods from recycled materials uses less energy and water and produces less air pollution. Developing creative ways to collect and recycle styrofoam packing materials and plastic packaging, for example, will lower the costs of producing these materials. And these efforts will create new jobs for Americans.
