invest more money and technology into the use of Algae growth as an alternative to our dependence on oil.

Created by W.O. on September 07, 2012

Algae is the fastest growing organism (plant) on Earth. Algae produces Lipids (vegetable oil) that can be used for a variety of fueling sources. By modifying the type of carbon chains that come from Algae, you can make various types of fuels (Jet fuel/diesel).

One acre of corn to be used for fuel production will yield 18 gallons of fuel per acre per year. Palm yields 700 gallons per acre, per year. Algae can yield up to 20,000 gallons per acre, per year!

Land only 1 / 10 the size of New Mexico devoted to Algae growth could meet energy production needs to cover the entire United States. The company Alterrus Systems has developed a vertical farming system to grow it so it doesn't even take up much land mass and can grow like skyscrapers.

Why hasn't the government looked into this?
