High-speed rail would reduce our dependence on oil and fossil fuels, while also moving people and goods quickly and more efficiently. Our population is growing fast. By the year 2039, the population of the United States will have ballooned to upwards of 400 million people. With many of our highways and airports at or above capacity, the time for high-speed rail is now, as our current systems cannot support this future growth. Many countries such as China, France, and Germany, have seized this opportunity and have laid extensive high-speed rail networks and reaped the benefits. High-speed rail can boost property values, create jobs, and would encourage companies to invest in the United States, knowing that they can easily transit throughout our nation.
