Invest in research & development of the Hyperloop transit system

Created by E.B. on August 13, 2013

On August 12, entrepreneur Elon Musk released the open source data for his proposed "Hyperloop" transit system as a possible substitute for California's planned bullet train, which was expected to cost about ten times as much while moving passengers at a fraction of the speed.

Elon Musk's proposal would open a transit corridor between Los Angeles and San Francisco that would cost just $6 billion in investment, and could break even charging under $20 per 30-minute, one-way ride. This ride currently costs around $60 on Amtrak and takes over ten hours.

We petition the federal government to make the investment in this zero-emissions, near-sonic speed Hyperloop, which could fundamentally change the face of long-distance overland transportation of both passengers and freight.
