Reports of voting machine improprieties followed many recent presidential elections. There were reports of illegally turning off security systems and illegally destroying paper records, both used to enable recounts. There were reports of meetings between Republican officials and manufactures of voting machines, in which the official asked if the machines could be altered to give Republican candidates more votes (NPR). And, before the 2016 election, reports on a highly vulnerable, easily tampered system (CNN, CBS, NBC, NPR).
These reports strike at the heart of our democracy. Investigate the 2016 presidential election for voting machine and voting system tampering, and develop strong safeguards and penalties for tampering with election results.
