The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has been exposed on many occasions as a lobbying group, yet they enjoy the tax advantage of being a non profit. This group has the support of powerful and influential corporations, individuals, and government officials. They have a pattern of infiltrating state legislatures, influencing state and federal legislation, and supporting partisan policies, often without public or legislative purview or debate.
There should be an independent investigation of both the lobbying and the tax status of this group. There should also be criminal charges to members who may have acted illegally or gained politically or financially through their relationship with ALEC.
