The US Army Corps of Engineers quietly planned to eliminate the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve, replacing it solely with native grasses, to create open lines of sight so that illegal activities might be visible. It claimed that no wildlife or habitats would be affected, and continued to claim this even as it bulldozed the area to dirt. It has offered as justification verbal requests from unnamed police, which local police have disputed. It has also offered complaints from the City Attorney's Office, which that Office has disputed.
In that the ACE's mandate is flood control and not law enforcement, we urge a focused and change-driven investigation.
