The debts, either real or imagined of elected officials to those that donate to their re-election campaigns, has become more important than the wishes of the constituents of those same elected officials. The current blocks that exist in the House and Senate, are due to the static nature of the officials whose job is to govern. but it seems they are so involved in getting re-elected, that no time is spent working towards their primary job, governing. In the movie "An AmericanPresident" the president of the United States, says something akin to "I was so busy trying to keep my job, I forgot to do my job." Our founding fathers probably never expected anyone to want to be a politician, or to become an elected official for life.
