2008 Jonathan had been suffering with severe back pain and had repeatedly asked the medical staff at Desoto Correctional Institute for a full evaluation and was ignored. In 2009 Jonathan was assaulted by deputy officers at Desoto. He had witnessed a deputy selling drugs to another inmate and when he wouldn't reveal their identities, deputies handcuffed him to a pole and savagely beat and kicked him while wearing steel toed boots. When he placed a request for medical treatment the next day, they immediately transferred him to South Florida Reception Center. Doctor found advanced cancer in his testicles and told him that it had been caught too late. Cancer had spread throughout his entire body to his lymph nodes, lungs brain and stomach.prison told him that he was going to die.
