There is significant evidence that Florida's voter laws and purges had a disparate impact on Black, Latino and working class communities. The media has reported not only varying wait times depending on race, class, age and political affiliation, but also the intensive work of Republican Party officials to intervene in the democratic process. Evidence suggests that Florida's HB1355 was a deliberate attempt to curtail turnout, and that political party officials coordinated in the redistricting process. Our Constitution guarantees that we are all created equal - and that's not how voting is working in Florida. We call on the federal government to investigate these matters so that the fundamental right of all citizens to cast their vote in free, fair and accessible elections is protected.
