Routine infant male circumcision has been commonplace in the U.S. for decades with dubious scientific validity and for primarily aesthetic/religious reasons. Infant boys are being permanently changed by their parents without consent. Occasional incidents occur where the boy’s penis may require amputation or even develop an infection leading to death.
Only in rare cases of medical necessity should infant circumcision be allowed. Infant boys have no voice. We do not remove any part of an infant’s body besides the foreskin. Why?
Would Freedom of Religon overrule a person’s right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness being threatened by a potentially crippling procedure that reduces one’s nerve connections in a sensitive area but may also lead to permanent physical disfigurement?
