Investigate historical inequalities, and support John Conyers' HR 40 to study reparations for slavery.

Created by C.H. on August 19, 2014

For 25 years Rep. John Conyers has introduced HR 40, Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act, yet this bill has never been discussed on the House floor.

In light of the inequalities that continue to blight our society, it is imperative for our government to fully understand its role in creating these inequalities, and to discuss options for their redress.

This is not an endorsement of reparations for slavery, but a study, a call to investigate the social, political, economic, and psychological legacies that remain from that practice, and to study how those spheres of public life might be altered by different reparations proposals.

We the People call upon the President to publicly support this bill, or to undertake a similar Executive Commission.
