Please direct the Attorney General and Federal Trade Commission to investigate Microsoft's mandate of SecureBoot UEFI in order to run Windows 8. Currently, Microsoft requires SecureBoot UEFI in order to allow vendors to certify their hardware for Windows 8. By imposing this requirement, Microsoft stifles innovation under the guise of security.
The SecureBoot UEFI technology essentially makes it difficult, if not impossible, to run other computer operating systems on computers that the consumer has purchased. The consumer owns the hardware and thus has the right to use it in any non-criminal way he or she sees fit. In effect, Microsoft is forcing the consumer to use Windows 8 on new hardware.
