The filibuster is repetitively used in order to require a super majority in order to do normal, run-of-the-mill legislative work. What this creates is an environment of perpetual obstructionism, as demonstrated by the less than "do nothing" 112th congress. Investigate this obstructionis, as it is surely not the will of the American people to have so little action from our legislative body.
