This petition was created for the US Department of Justice to do an investigation into Alligator Rural Water and Sewer and to raise awareness into the corruption in this corporation.
Alligator Rural Water and Sewer in McBee, SC, is a private nonprofit corporation owned by its members. It receives large amounts of money from the federal government through the US Department of Agriculture Rural Development Authority in the form of grants. It is deeply in debt to the federal government (approximately $22,120,000; about $12,200 per member). Alligator is a very closed and closely guarded entity. The manager carefully picks and guides the selection of the board of directors. Monthly board meetings were once open to members, but are now closed. New rules make it hard to get on ballots and vote.
