On July 5, 2016, Alton Sterling was a victim of police brutality at the hands of Baton Rouge Police Department. He was fatally shot while being restrained by officers. On, July 6, 2016, Philando Castile was pulled over where his interaction with an officer representative of the St. Anthony Police Department turned fatal due to him reaching for identification he was ordered to provide. The governor of Minnesota stated race played a role in the shooting death of Mr. Castile. It is necessary for the Department of Justice to not only investigate the isolated incidents, but also Baton Rouge Police Department and St. Anthony Police Department as a whole to ensure anyone else's civil rights are not being violated and the police officers
