The issue of police brutality is a prevalent concern in the United States today. We consistently see officers acting outside their reasonable limits putting the very people they are meant to protect into mortal danger. These crimes against society and humanity remain unpunished as police departments set the precedent of responding with a "slap on the wrist".
It is time that we require police officers to be more ethical, have harsher punishments for unacceptable behavior (paid suspension and reassignment is not a punishment) and ensure the continued safety of our people and society. Through more qualified and emotionally stable officers we can restore the country's faith in its officers and allow the general public to trust police yet again.
It is time for the people to police the police.
