Investigate the sales tax revenue opportunity and reduction in police costs by the legalization of marijuana.

Created by H.D. on November 15, 2012

With the fiscal cliff looming, we need new revenue sources.
The taxation of the sale of legalized marijuana should be looked at. Use the tobacco tax as a model as to how much revenue can be generated. Sell permits to big tobacco companies to grow said merchandise and also offer each state permits to sell to smaller farmers in each state.
Taxes from the sales, taxes from the income to the growers and revenue from the sale of permits will increase revenue in our country to right the ship. We will reduce cost on the war on drugs and also free up our prison system with 3 strikes offenders for marijuana possession. This is money that reduces our spending from a governmental standpoint while increasing revenues.
