In 1959 a little known nuclear meltdown occurred in the hills of Santa Susana, located between the San Fernando and Simi Valleys, and just 30 miles NW of downtown Los Angeles, CA.
The public have been kept in the dark. This facility consisted of 2,850 acres, once known as Rocketdyne. Home of 50 yrs of Rocket Engine testing. The Sodium Reactor Experiment, cooled with sodium powered the town of Moorpark. In 1959 a power excursion took place, and the operators shut down the reactor, but then made the decision to start it up again and continued to run it for an additional 2 weeks. All this time, radioactive gas was vented into the atmosphere. In March the EPA stated radioactive soil readings are still 1000 times greater than normal this is following two extensive cleanups.
