Investigate SC Commission for Minority Affairs and State Recognition Committee. Constitutional rights have been breached

The Wassamasaw Indian Nation Appeal to the Board of the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs regarding our petition for State Recognition as a “Tribe” in the State of South Carolina. The Wassamasaw Indian Nation is a community of lineal descendants of Etiwan Indians. We have always been and remain a separate and distinct community.
The Wassamasaw Indian Nation has maintained tribal status per the 1901 U.S. Supreme Court decision Montoya v. United States 180 U.S. 261, a decision that is frequently referred to by courts when seeking a legal definition of the term “tribe,” we understand a body of Indians of the same or a similar race, united in a community under one leadership or government, and inhabiting a particular though sometimes ill defined territory (Wassamasaw).”
