In Jackson County, MS, Sheriff Byrd was charged with 29 felonies and 2 misdemeanors which included every type of abuse of office, including charges which "portray him as a sheriff who allegedly used his office to retaliate against perceived enemies..."
Asst Attorney General Greg Bordenkircher, reduced these charges to 1 felony -- that of KICKING A HANDCUFFED PRISONER TWICE IN THE GROIN & forcing a cover up. One despicable act tells volumes about Byrd's character & abuse of office.
However, Chief US Dist Judge William Steele, upon receipt of letters attesting to Bryd's good character, gave him 6 mos of house arrest--& refuses to release these letters. This travesty stinks and needs to be investigated!
