News stories daily depict the use of excessive force by local police forces nationwide. These uses of force, including beatings, tasings, and shootings, usually far outweigh any potential judicial penalties for alleged crimes being investigated. As these violent acts are increasingly caught on tape, it has become frighteningly clear to Americans that police officers often collude to hide violent acts against suspects through outright lies. Still, the burden of proof remains with the suspects, many of whom have been left with permanent debilitating injuries, and charged with bogus charges such as resisting arrest, assault of an officer, and obstruction of justice. We request a national conversation on the erosion of trust in police and justice to the accused.
