Jim Abbott, a former MLB and Team USA pitcher who was born with one hand, drew a standing ovation from 50,000 Cubans, including Fidel Castro, when he pitched for Team USA against Cuba in July, 1987. He became an instant celebrity in Cuba and still is, suggesting that he would serve as an ideal athlete-diplomat during President Obama's attendance of the upcoming exhibition game between the Rays' and the Cuban national team on March 22.
