We're asking President Obama to stop civil assets seizures through executive order. It's become very clear that police departments across the country have began to use the law illegally to fund their own slush funds to buy equipment or fund departmental toys.
The law was meant to fight drug traffickers by seizing their assets but departments have learned that its all too easy to seize cash from honest citizens because there is no recourse for honest people. You are guilty until proven innocent. People have to hire lawyers to prove their funds were not drug money. Once again, something that was meant to help has been abused and it needs to stop.
