I think the IRS, not Free File private companies, should provide a free online method to file taxes. I do not want to give private companies my personal tax information. I do not want to pay to file my taxes. Currently, the Free File system is not well designed - I suspect - so that the users then choose to pay a company to complete the forms in an easier more reliable manner. The Free File system is not linked to the instructions and does not create an alert for the user if a required box is not filled in. Every other company that asks for information is able to provide that type of service - even this site! No one wants to pay taxes but at least we shouldn't HAVE to pay a company to do a simple form correctly.
