The state of Ohio has refused to issue a new birth certificate to a boy whose parents are a same-sex couple and are not married. Now, a single person who is gay can adopt, and a single person who is straight can adopt. But an unmarried, same-sex couple, for some reason, can’t get a birth certificate for their adopted son. Because it is an adoption, a new certificate is required. Without it, he and his parents will have to carry a court order with them at all times to prove he is who he is and that his parents are who they say they are.
