The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on 9/18/15 issued a press release; it stated that cars whose emissions exceed standards are still legal to drive and resell, in spite of being in violation of emissions laws. Additional clarification is required. It should be made known that, even though the cars are still legal to drive, this fact does NOT create a safe-harbor for automotive manufactures from legal claims stemming from false information provided to consumers or other actions taken for the purpose of misleading or defrauding consumers. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is being asked to clarify this point for consumers and to provide information about how consumers can protect their legal rights. FAQs and/or press release is due 30 days after gaining the right for review.
