As we all know the United States Government is given its power by the people. How do the people give such a power? The answer to such a question is through consent. A government can only hold power over a population through the consent of the people. And an unarmed people cannot give its consent and have it mean anything. Hence, the 2nd Amendment's importance.
However, the Obama Administration seems to be pro Gun Control on many things such as high capacity magazines, and things of the same sort.
An official statement on its view of the 2nd Amendment and what it means, in detail would be nice. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and even more willing to share it. An official statement from President Obama would clear up many issues.
