A huge step forward in equality was made with the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage. However, the reality is that you can get married on Monday and find yourself fired on Tuesday. This is making some people choose to not get married because they have to choose between employment and marriage. Who else has to do this? I was an ICU nurse who was fired twice for being gay. I even tried to hide it from my bosses, but it didn't work. I was discriminated against everywhere I worked that wasn't a University hospital. Even though I was subjected to harassment, I did my job. I knew if I complained, I'd be fired again. My wife quit a job because the environment was so bad she feared for her safety if they found out. The states are refusing. Please act now, we are Americans!
