Quoting the language from H.R. 4807:
"To amend title 10, United States Code, to provide for the award of a military service medal to members of the Armed Forces who served honorably during the Cold War, and for other purposes."
Men and women who served in uniform during most conflicts (examples: WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, The Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the war in Afghanistan) have received medals recognizing their service and sacrifices. Those of us who served during the Cold War and defeated the spread of communism are just considered "people who were in the armed forces." We do not enjoy protected veteran status and cannot even join the American Legion. Awarding a Cold War Service Medal to Cold War Veterans would be much appreciated. We earned it.
