Since 1993 the winner of the football game between Syracuse and West Virginia has been awarded the Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy; which is named after the famous West Virginia football player and Syracuse coach. Syracuse and West Virginia played each other in the regular season every year from 1955 until 2011, when West Virginia left the Big East Conference. In the final iteration of the game in 2011, Syracuse won and retained the trophy. By an odd twist of fate that could only happen in the world of college football, the two teams are set to play in the 3rd Annual Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium; thereby reviving the soon-to-be defunct rivalry. Syracuse has announced that it would not put the iconic trophy on the line for this game. Immediate action is required.
