Cetaceans are sentient beings. They are among the smartest creatures on the planet, and are central to several ecosystems. Also, they are a part of our rapidly dwindling biological heritage. As our global biodiversity declines we must reevaluate our priorities. One day the oil will be gone, and, through American ingenuity, our society will carry on, un-phased. This is a certainty, so why should we carelessly sacrifice the biodiversity we cannot replenish in pursuit of a finite resource that will soon be obsolete? If we do not protect Cetacean life, one day there will be no oil and no dolphins or whales. We will be left with nothing because we allowed the shortsighted to lead.
