Our concerns about household budgets, international destabilization, and climate change all intersect at the use of oil. Mobile source air pollution - auto emissions - is a significant contributor towards poor air quality, respiratory illness and gases believed to be responsible for climate change. Commuting consumes time, energy and money. Fluctuations in the price of oil represent significant uncertainty in household budgets, and those living paycheck to paycheck can fall quickly into debt if a crisis in Iraq, or a fire at a refinery, drives gas prices up over the summer.
Mr. President, we ask you to support an easily-implemented, zero-cost idea to help ease our dependence upon oil. Publicly implore business to allow their workers to telecommute 2 days each week.
