In America, we should be celebrating our democracy and doing everything possible to make it easier for people to participate in the political process. Election Day should be a national holiday so that everyone has the time and opportunity to vote.
Also, there's better uses of a day off than Columbus Day. It celebrates someone that really no one is really proud of anymore and if you are then maybe take the evening to read the first couple chapters of "A People's History of the United States."
Anyway, I digress. Mr. Obama, how often do you have the opportunity to do the biggest thing for democracy since the Voting Rights Act while simultaneously saying, "you know what, let's stop celebrating a homicidal maniac."
