Issue Executive Order making Student Loan Debt discharge-able through Bankruptcy.

Created by S.L. on May 05, 2013

Things happen in life. Sometimes people take on more debt that they can handle. Usually, bankruptcy courts give people a way to get their finances in order and start fresh.

Almost every kind of debt is already discharge-able in bankruptcy court: home mortgages; credit cards; medical bills; car loans, etc.

Why aren't student loans discharge-able? Most people take on these loans when they're only 18-25 years old. Then they're saddled with debt that often exceeds $100,000.

What happens if they lose their job? Or if they have a job but don't make enough money to make the payments?

We are creating a generation of kids who begin life way behind the starting line. People should be allowed to discharge their student loans in bankruptcy court.
