The purpose of this petition is to deny the states the ability to arbitrarily legislate a death penalty for various crimes.
Life is a right under the 9th amendment.
The death penalty being subject to arbitrary legislation, and more often enforced on the poor and minorities is a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Under the Law.
States are also barred from enforcing the death penalty by interstate regulations, all one has to do to avoid it is take the evidence, victim, or the body out of state. This also violates the 14th amendment, because states cannot guarantee equal protection for their citizens.
Therefore we ask that this practice be abolished in all 50 states and US territories and possessions, so that our people can be equally protected under the law
