The safety net provided by Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid is essential to the national security of the United States. Without it, millions of seniors and disadvantaged people could fall into poverty, including millions of children.
We ask that these so-called "entitlement" benefits be left untouched in seeking to balance any federal budget, and that cuts instead be sought out in our bloated defense budget, in fossil fuel and other unneeded subsidies and in various other instances of "corporate welfare," as well as by raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans, corporations and adjusting the capital gains tax to be equal to regular "earned income" tax rates.
