We the people ask the federal government to Change an existing Administration policy:

Issue Executive Order to waive repayment of re-enlistment bonuses paid out wrongly by California National Guard

Created by S.P. on October 22, 2016

During the Bush administration, the California National Guard paid out re-enlistment bonuses to nearly 10,000 soldiers to meet enlistment targets. These bonuses were fraudulently issued, & the soldiers who received them are now being forced to repay the gov't - despite fulfilling re-enlistment contracts at risk of their lives. Many of these veterans live on disability payments, having paid their contracts in limbs and lost quality of life. Now they face the US Government showing up a decade later, demanding thousands, even tens of thousands, of dollars in repayment & fines. This is unconscionable. While the soldiers benefited from fraud & incompetence, they were not complicit. Please waive this debt.
