The Federal Government gives thousands of dollars to low-income families in order to help pay for college, but what about us middle class? Financial aid calculations fail to consider things like mortgages, so students who appear to have families that can "afford" college really have very little money to put toward post-secondary education. This leaves middle class students in debt for a large portion of their lives, and may even deter them from attending a college or university altogether. If the government doesn't do something, the US will fall even farther behind in the world on Education and go even further into debt.
