I would ask President Obama to make a formal apology on behalf of the United States to African Americans. This would formally acknowledge the mistreatment and racism that we have endured. It would also serve as a starting point to begin a healing process where The United States can reconcile with the sins of the past.
We can't teach that the United States holds the moral high ground without admitting to mistakes made in the past. Slavery, Jim Crow, and the "blind eye" that was turned to the exploitation of the American black man is a wrong that needs to be admitted; not in a museum, not in a monument, but by the American Government. The same government who expects ALL of its citizens to uphold a civic mind and duty.
Please extend to Native Americans and Japanese Americans
