This petition is to propose the Obama Administration to consider stapling Green Cards or an alternative immigration status which would allow International Students who graduate from US Universities with Masters in the STEM Groups.
Currently, students are permitted to work for 12 months on Optional Practical Training (OPT) provision and seek an additional 17 month extension. Following the entire 29 month period, students must find an employer who is willing to sponsor H1-B visa or leave the country.
To retained highly educated and skilled labor, issuing green cards immediately after the 29 month OPT period would help stay in the US and start new businesses and create more jobs. This would also make US compete in the global economy.
