Issue a national address discouraging major news media from glorifying mass shootings

Created by W.H. on May 28, 2014

Mass killings have become a commonplace sight in America. Often news media portrays these events as 'baffling', while glorifying the killers as anti-heroes and turning them into morbid, overnight celebrities.

It is common belief among criminal psychologist that these theaters of violence and media circuses are causing the culture-bound syndrome of rampage shootings. These tragedies are not so puzzling after all. Media portrayal does nothing but perpetuate these atrocities.

This is not a petition about gun politics, but a petition about human character and a plea that the media and its viewers stop focusing on the perpetrators on a national level (or ideally at all). Don't give these killers an audience for their sick messages, and maybe they won't be as encouraged to act out.
