In order to help mitigate the effects of climate change, a carbon tax will make companies more aware of the harmful amounts of carbon they are emitting. As a global influence, this will also encourage other countries to issue/regulate carbon (and other harmful gas) output. The money can be used to help develop new technologies and to work towards cleaner, more renewable energy.
