Senator Tom Cotton and 46 others Senators have written or signed an Open Letter to the Iranian Government as an attempt to influence and interfere with current negotiations conducted by representives of the President.
This may be a violation of the Logan Act, a United States federal law that forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. It was passed in 1799 and last amended in 1994. Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable under federal law with imprisonment of up to three years.
It is not in the interest of the United States of America to have almost one half of the Senate as potential criminals. We ask that President Obama issue a blanket pardon for all volations of federal law that might stem from this letter.
