The recent phenomenon of retailers starting their holiday sales on Thanksgiving Day instead of the day after Thanksgiving (commonly known as Black Friday) is depriving many hard working Americans the opportunity to spend this important holiday with their family and friends, requiring them to instead spend the day at work.
Thanksgiving Day was intended to be a day where Americans from all walks of life gathered to give thanks for what they have, for those who work in jobs that don't stop just because it's a holiday, like doctors, firefighters, police officers and our military and for the opportunity to live in our great Country.
Retailers, in their noble but sometimes heartless pursuit of the dollar, need to be reminded that there are precious few sacred days left on our calendars.
